Brown Butter Nutella Blondies

Calling all Nutella lovers out there: I’ve got the perfect recipe for you! Now, before we get into it, I NEED Y’ALL TO LISTEN, OKAY? I’M A BAKER! You can’t judge me for loving a lot of sugar. And sometimes, I’m just craving the richest, most-decadent, borderline obscene sweets in the world. I want it all in a recipe. And when I’m really trying to go all out, I take this recipe into my kitchen. This recipe has everything: ooey-gooey Nutella sandwiched between a decadently-delicious blondie casing, and draped in crispy, crunchy Kinder Bueno Bars. This is a recipe for the sweetest-toothed members of the EJB hive.

Nutella is my comfort topping. It’s rich, it’s luxurious, it’s dang-near sinful. Nutella can be a balm for the soul. Who can really say they don’t indulge in one-too-many Bueno Bars or Ferrero Rocher candies when they want to feel better? Whether you’re going through it and need a pick-me-up or just feeling yourself and looking for a nice lil treat, Nutella has got you covered.

And this recipe brings out the best parts of that indulgent nature of Nutella. I’m bringing you a treat that’ll leave you feeling alllll the comfort in the world. We’ve got a delectable blondie base that’s rich, warm and perfectly crumbly. On top of that base, you’re dealing with a drippy layer of Nutella that, when combined with the blondie, makes a perfectly flavorful bite. And, for a bit of texture and a bit of a flex, we layer a thick spread of Kinder Bueno Bars on top of the Nutella to make a dessert so over-the-top, you’ll be feeling like royalty.

But that’s not all… We’ve got a secret ingredient that takes this recipe to the next level…

Besties, we are baking in this recipe, okay?! And to get a recipe that’ll take this decadence to the next level, we’re going to brown our butter. It may seem like an unnecessary step, but I promise you, it is worth it! Browning your butter will give you a nuttier flavor that’ll really complement the hazelnut of the Nutella in this recipe. It also deepens the flavor of your blondie bar, making it much richer. Brown butter is the key to making this recipe one that’ll keep folks clamoring for more.

PRO TIPS:

  • If you don’t want to make brown butter, regular butter will work just fine!

  • If you do choose to use brown butter, it is important to remember to NOT burn the butter! Keep it at a low heat and constantly mix until it reaches a beautiful golden brown color.

  • If you do not have Bueno Bars, Ferrero Rochers candies can also work beautifully!

  • Topping the blondies with sea salt at the very end gives them the perfect balance of salty and sweet.

Brown Butter Nutella Blondies

What you will need:

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 sticks of melted brown butter (instructions on how to do this is in the recipe below)

  • 1 ½ cups of brown sugar

  • 2 eggs at room temperature

  • 1 tbsp of pure vanilla extract

  • 1 cup of Nutella

  • A  bunch of Buenos Bars

  • Coarse Sea Salt for Garnish

Making the blondies:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and heavily grease a 9’’ by 9’’ baking pan

  2. Make your brown butter.

    • To create brown butter, simply place the 2 sticks of butter in a saucepan and let the butter melt over medium-low heat. Constantly mix the butter and let it cook until it is a golden brown color. You’ll know it’s ready once the brown butter has a nutty, rich smell, one that reminds me of grilled cheese. Let the butterf cool for about 5 minutes once it is browned.

  3. In a bowl, combine your dry ingredients: flour, salt and baking soda.

  4. In another bowl, combine the melted brown butter and brown sugar, whisking until smooth. Once smooth, add in the eggs one at a time, and then add your vanilla extract.

  5. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the butter mixture to create a soft cookie dough.

  6. Place half of the dough into the greased pan by pressing down on the dough to cover the whole bottom.

  7. Spread about 1 cup of nutella all over the dough, and then place a bunch of Kinder Bueno Bars on top of the Nutella-covered dough (feel free to use as many bars as you’d like! )

  8. Using the remaining dough, cover the nutella mixture and seal everything together.

  9. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until you can stick a toothpick into the blondies that comes out mostly clean. Let the blondies cool entirely before cutting. Garnish with sea salt.

  10. Enjoy!
